About
Continuing to make circular knitted fabric…
"Monozukuri no Machi", Higashiosaka is the home ground of Monju. In this area of Higashiosaka, where many small and medium-sized enterprises gather, each with its own commitment to craftsmanship, we persist in producing circular knitted fabric.
Knitting involves creating continuous loops with yarn, which connect to form fabric. Among these, the circular knitted fabric we handle is tubular, with yarn loops spirally connected, known for its gentle stretch and used widely in everyday clothing like t-shirts and undergarments. The loops, which vary flexibly according to the technique used, the yarn employed, the type and size of knitting machines, and the finishing processes, create fabric that either gently supports or, at other times, provides the necessary robust reinforcement, always catering to people's specific needs.
Today, in Higashiosaka, companies like ours that deal in fibers are rare. However, many textile companies developed from the flourishing cotton industry of the Edo period. Encouraged by their existence, we have refined the technology to produce circular knitted fabric. Taking pride in creating ideal fabric, we continue our efforts to this day.
The demands on our fabric have evolved with the times, and opportunities to showcase the allure of fabric have gradually diminished. Nevertheless, this situation has led us to ideas for creating products that help people to appreciate the unique charm of circular knitted fabric.
The birth of BAGSBAG
To bring these ideas to life, we chose to collaborate with a designer. Together, we reconsidered the potential of circular knitted fabric, exploring how its characteristics could be maximized using a well-known material. Amidst this process, a small realization emerged: sorting luggage for travel or business trips according to purpose was cumbersome because loose items are difficult to organize... This insight led directly to the birth of BAGSBAG.
BAGSBAG adopts the structure of a drawstring bag. The possibility arose: what if these bags, connected in pairs or threes, could create new uses for drawstring bags? It's a simple idea, allowing for versatile use, almost like an extension of everyday attire. It's something that seems truly obvious yet remained undiscovered.
And occupying a significant portion of this drawstring bag is our most cherished circular knitted fabric. To achieve a shine akin to silk, we meticulously use high-quality Supima cotton yarn, polishing each thread individually. We knit it carefully using machines that preserve the unique characteristics of the yarn and enhance it further through dyeing processes. Like the "Junmai Daiginjo" of Japanese sake, this results in the pinnacle of circular knitted fabric.
Our proprietary approach combines advanced techniques to deliver a true innovation in fabric development. This new product, uniquely ours, offers a modest contribution to a part of everyone's life. This is BAGSBAG.
